do i need an appointment to drop off a repair?
No appointment is necessary for dropping off repairs. Simply visit our store during any business hours and our experienced staff members at the front desk will assist you in the check-in process.
How long will it take for me to get my instrument back?
Instruments are worked on in the order that they are received - standard turnaround time is 3-5 business days for string repairs, and 5-10 business days for brass and woodwind repairs.
Please note that the months of June, July, August, and September are always busier for B&W repairs, and 28 days is the minimum turnaround time during those months, due to the extremely high volume of instruments that we receive. In addition, consultations with our B&W repair techs are CLOSED during June, July, and August.
If you have specific questions about your repair, please email our technicians or drop by the store anytime to get help from our knowledgeable staff.

BRASS & WOODWIND REPAIR
Ian Hart - Brass & Woodwind Repair Technician
Since joining JAMS Music in early 2015, Ian Hart has become a prominent figure within the Tri-Valley music community for his dedication to delivering exceptional instrument repairs with an unwavering commitment to quality. His guiding principle is “You’re only as good as the last repair you’ve done.” Ian has conducted repair-focused sessions for Atlanta Public Schools, LVJUSD, SRVUSD, and at the CMEA Bay Section Conference.
An instrument evolves into a trusted companion over time, developing its unique character and dialogue with the player. Regular maintenance is essential in preserving and enhancing this relationship, ensuring that musicians have a reliable, finely tuned instrument throughout their careers. Ian's objective is to remove any obstacles between the musician and their instrument, facilitating seamless practice and performance.
Ian eschews the saying, “Centuries of tradition, unimpeded by progress,” and instead employs modern repair techniques to help instruments and musicians realize their full potential. He is always willing to provide maintenance tips and offer candid advice on instrument upgrades and evaluations. Prior to his career in repair, Ian majored in Music Education at the University of the Pacific before finding his home behind the bench instead of on the podium.
Ian has performed professionally with the Atlanta Wind Symphony and is currently performing with the Pleasanton Community Concert Band and the San Francisco Pride Band. Additionally, he is available as a substitute for local performing ensembles on saxophone and clarinet. When he’s not at work, you can find him cheering on the Dubs with his wife during basketball season and reading the latest science fiction and fantasy novels to hit the Livermore Public Library shelves.
