Hello, my name is Nick Kaye and I teach trumpet lessons at Jams Music in Dublin, CA. I am currently pursuing a Bachelors in Music with a minor in Education at Saint Mary’s College of California where I am part of the Chamber Players and Jazz Band directed by Dr. Sixto Montesinos. I am also the president of the Saint Mary’s Sports Band. I currently take lessons under Scott Macomber, acting 2nd chair trumpet of the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra. I started my trumpet journey in 2012 when I was in 3rd grade and started playing in the Palmer School band a year later. I went to De La Salle High School in Concord, CA where I was a part of the Jazz Band, Concert Band, and Marching Band. I served as Trumpet Section Leader and Drum Major of the Marching Band and earned the John Philip Sousa Award in 2021.
Throughout my journey I’ve enjoyed the process of becoming a more well rounded player and seeing my growth from beginner to experienced. One factor that helped keep me motivated is my teachers would explain how both trumpet and music in general applied in other areas of our lives and could offer improvement in areas we struggle in. I think emphasizing positive self-talk to students builds a foundation that allows the student to think critically about their playing and practice and mitigates fear of mistakes allowing them to go into performances with more confidence. A great mindset makes a great musician.
Matthew Fell

Matthew Fell holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Performance from BIOLA University and a Master’s in Conducting from the American Band College of Sam Houston State University. With over a decade of teaching experience, he specializes in brass pedagogy, focusing on trumpet and low brass development.
Since 2023, he has been the Assistant Director of Bands at Amador Valley High School, teaching the 80 member brass section for the marching band and leading the top two jazz bands. Passionate about nurturing students’ growth in music and fostering a supportive environment, Matthew is excited to join the teaching team at JAMs Music to help inspire and develop the next generation of brass players.
